From Shingles to Rubber

How many different kinds of roofs can you spot on the houses on your street? A few decades ago, you may have only seen shingle roofs, perhaps with the occasional slate roof mixed in. But these days, there are more kinds of roofing on the market. Metal roofs are becoming common because they can be made from recycled materials. Tile is a popular choice because it lasts a lot longer than other roofing materials. And then there are some roofers who install rubber roofs because they're smooth and easy to install. Learn more about roofs of all types on this blog.

Want A New Fireplace? 2 Types To Choose From And How They Are Installed

If you want a new fireplace for your home, you have many types to choose from. Below is information about two of these types, as well as how the fireplace you choose is installed.

Electric Fireplace

An electric fireplace is popular for many people as there is no mess to contend with. The only thing you must do is press a button or turn a dial to turn the fireplace on. Instead of using fire, an electrical heater is used. The heater looks like a fireplace that uses wood or coal. You simply plug the fireplace into a wall outlet. You do not have to worry about fumes in the air because the fireplace does not burn wood or coal. You can purchase this fireplace in a variety of designs and sizes. They are much easier to install and less expensive so you can install an electric fireplace in more than one room. This can even help with your electrical bills as the fireplace can warm the room well.

If you choose to have the fireplaced recessed, which means it is inside the wall, you need to hire a professional to install it for you. They must cut out the wall to the right size. An electrician is needed to wire a recessed fireplace to the electrical outlet.

You can also choose an electric fireplace that simply hangs on a wall. If you choose this type, you can likely install it yourself. The cords are hidden so you cannot see cords hanging down the wall.

Gas Fireplace

A gas fireplace mimics real wood fires in the way they look and sound. A small amount of smoke is produced by this fireplace, so you do have to install venting. The fire is not produced using logs or coal but instead gas. This allows you to control how much fire that burns in the fireplace as you simply turn the gas on to the right level. If you want to feel more heat, simply turn the gas up higher.

You should hire a professional to install a gas fireplace for you. They have to install the vent and it is important it be installed correctly. To install the vent a hole is cut through the wall at the right size so there is no space when the vent pipe is placed inside the hole.

The fireplace company will likely contact a plumber to install the gas line for the fireplace once the vent pipe is installed. This is an important part of the process because gas can be dangerous if not used correctly.

A fireplace installation company can tell you about other types of fireplaces you can choose from for your home.
