4 Steps Professional Roofers Take During A Roof Replacement Project

After deciding to install a new roofing system, you will need to set things to streamline the project implementation process. First, consider working with a professional roofer to help you buy superior roofing materials that will serve you for several decades. It is natural for homeowners to want to know what to expect during the replacement process. This piece will walk you through some crucial steps your roofing contractor will take to complete the project successfully.

1. Preparation of the Worksite

Before the day arrives, your supplier will deliver all the materials required for the project. Store them in a dry, safe area, preferably close to the project site. This will enhance access to the materials easy for the contractors. It is also advisable to cover your furniture and remove the artwork from the walls. You could also move your vehicles to protect them against any potential flying debris. Lastly, get a dumpster for easier debris collection and effective waste management.

2. Stripping Out the Old Roof

Roof replacements include tearing off the old roof completely. Some homeowners choose to reroof, which entirely depends on the existing roof's current condition. The contractors will arrive at your home with a team of employees and climb the roof. They will start stripping it out piece by piece while discarding the waste in the dumpster.

If you wish to install new gutters, the older pieces will be ripped off to make room for the new pieces. If you choose to keep the old gutters, maybe because they are relatively new, the roofers can clean and reinstall them later. But before reinstalling the gutters, the specialists can remove all debris, silt, and leaves.

3. Installing a New Roofing

After stripping out all the older materials, the contractor will examine the decking. Some wooden boards might be too weak to hold a new system. If that's the case, they might tear down the roof's foundation and install new decking.

Contractors systematically work around the roofing sections, properly installing the underlayment, drip edge, ice shields, counter flashing, and ridge vents. They begin installing from the bottom until the shingles are tightly secured.

4. Clean-Up and Inspection

After the installation process, the team will clean up all debris generated from the project. They should ensure no nail or sharp tile is left behind, making your property safer. After clearing the debris, the roofers can evaluate the results. They often double-check areas notorious for leaks, such as around the flashing and chimney. Once confirmed, you will settle the payment and sign all necessary documents.

Now that you know what to expect during the roofing project, it is probably the right time to contact a roofer for the task. Work with a reliable roofing contractor to enjoy quality services at a reasonable cost.
